Nigel Brennan is an Australian photojournalist who gained international attention after he was kidnapped by Somali pirates in 2008. Brennan and Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout were taken hostage while on assignment in Somalia. After spending 462 days in captivity, Brennan was released in 2009 after a ransom was paid.
Prior to his kidnapping, Brennan had worked as a freelance photojournalist, covering conflicts and humanitarian crises around the world. After his release, he continued to work as a journalist, focusing on human trafficking and refugee issues. Brennan has also become an advocate for press freedom and the safety of journalists operating in dangerous areas.
In addition to his journalism work, Brennan has also worked as a speaker and writer, sharing his experiences of captivity and campaigning for the release of other hostages. He has written a book about his ordeal, titled "The Price of Life," which was published in 2013.
